8th grade Math

This 8th grade Math course emphasizes strengthening algebraic skills and applying new geometric concepts. Topics for this course include converting between standard, decimal, and scientific notation, order sets of Real Numbers arising from Math and Real World contexts, solving and writing Equations with variables on both sides, interpreting the unit rate as slope, graph slope, and finding the y-intercept, identify functions using ordered pairs, tables, mapping, and graphs, distinguish proportional and non-proportional equations using multiple representations, use Pythagorean Theorem and its converse, fin volume, and surface area of cylinders and prisms, transformations that include translation, reflection, rotation, and dilation. Construct scatter plots and describe association, find simple and compound interest.

Algebra Pre-Ap

Topics for this course include solving multi-step equations, solving multi-step inequalities, finding domain and range for linear functions, Finding slope using slope intercept formula, writing equations in slope intercept form, standard form, point slope form, finding correlation coefficient, Solving systems of equations, properties of exponents, Polynomials, add, subtract, multiply and divide. Factor polynomials, Write and solve quadratic equations, exponential functions, exponential growth, and decay.

 

Classroom rules

  2. Be courteous and respect others (peers and adults) NO swearing or bullying
  3. Keep hands, feet, and all objects to yourself.
  4. Be prepared with materials each day
  5. Follow the District Dress Code
  6. NO food, drinks, or gum allowed in the classroom or hallways. No cell phones allowed

Classroom Expectations

  1. All assignments must be turned in on time
  2. Students will be responsible for the work assigned to them
  3. Students are expected to attend class on a daily basis
  4. Students must always be on time

Homework Expectations

Classwork will be given EVERYDAY! If classwork is not finished, it will be completed as homework, in addition to the designated homework for the day.
